Fluting

Sunday, September 21, 2008

Many of you know that I play the flute. It was a huge part of my life for about 20 years. A lot of things led me to sort of give it up to go to business school and now that I've started my new career, I don't play much. And when I do play, it's sort of a strange sensation to approach something so familiar in a new way. I can tell that my fingers aren't quite as fast, but my memory of all the scales and notes hasn't faded.

I played in church today and it felt so good. I played a version of "A Poor Wayfaring Man of Grief." A church audience is the easiest audience in the world. Everyone loves it. I'll hear the sweetest compliments like, "I've never heard a flute sound so good." Or, "I didn't want it to stop!" Church people are the best with compliments.

So, I'm missing my fluting days a little bit today. Good thing there's always a church audience.

Well Linda, I was never as good on piano as you were on flute, but I used to play much better than I do now. I had the chance last Sunday to sit down for an hour and play. It was an escape for me during the high school years and I really miss it. I guess I am saying that I can relate in a small way!
