I've got moxy

I went golfing today with coworkers and had so much fun, even though I'm definitely a beginning golfer. I'm proud of myself for getting out there and doing something out of my comfort zone.

More on my golfing experience:
I took a beginning class my last semester of business school, since I figured it might come in handy. Turns out, it did.

I audited my golf class because my schedule was so busy. And even though I went to all the classes and practiced my swing, I only went golfing on a range once (played 9 holes). So I was a little nervous playing with 'the guys' today. We had a team event this morning and then whoever wanted to, was invited to play 9 holes afterward. All of the usual guys signed up (including my manager's manager)- none of whom are female. I have to say that I'm proud of myself. I was a little intimidated (being a complete beginner, being the only woman, and being followed around by a camera crew- more on that in a minute). All things considered I wasn't horrible and I had a ton of fun. One of the guys in the group said that I've got moxy. Not sure exactly what he meant, but I'll take it as a compliment.

Back to the camera crew-
When we arrived on the course, a camera crew was there. They informed us that they were shooting for a commercial and wanted permission to film us as we teed off. I let the guys go first, so that the camera crew would stop filming before I took my turn. Well, after a few holes, the camera crew showed up again and wanted to film some more and they specifically asked for me. I think it had something to do with that I was literally the only woman on the course that day. They must be marketing to women, or beginners (or they just liked my movie-star-style sunglasses I was wearing), because I can't think of any other reason they would want to film me. Anyway, I missed the ball twice before I got a good hit. And when I say missed, I mean that I put all of my energy into a full swing, and didn't even touch the ball. Not even to create enough wind to push it off the tee.

Thankfully, I hit it the 3rd time fairly well and got a thumbs up from the camera man. By then, my coworkers were loosened up with a few beers and we had a good laugh about it. It still makes me chuckle to think of them showing me in their commercial. Any real golfer will probably be horrified by my form :) But at least I've got moxy (whatever that is).
