I just got back from my little sister's wedding. I was the maid of honor, which turned out to be a fun experience. I was careful to fulfill my maid of honor duties, including hosting a bridal shower/bachelorette party, carrying the groom's ring, and holding the bride's bouquet during the ceremony.
But, I forgot about one tradition- the toast. Not ever drinking alcoholic beverages myself, I really haven't had occasion to make many toasts. So, after the best man made his toast and everyone turned to me, I thought, "Oh shoot, I'm supposed to make a toast!"
I tried to stall for a few minutes, but the photographer came over and asked me if I was going to make a toast. So, I stood up with my awkward glass of water (the waiter had come by with non-alcoholic cider, but forgot to pour anything in my glass) and hoped that something would come to mind. I can't remember everything I said, but I think it was fairly good based upon the following criteria:
1. I wasn't drunk
2. I didn't say anything embarrassing (and I said all the correct names)
3. It was short
Overall, I think it was a good effort.
